American School of Bombay–Kurla Campus, Mumbai

As part of the expansion of the American School of Bombay, EDI was entrusted with the complete transformation of the 90,000 sq. ft. Kurla campus, originally designed as a hotel, into a cutting-edge learning environment for Middle and High School students.

Converting a hospitality structure into an academic campus posed unique architectural and planning challenges—foremost among them being the need to bring in natural light and reduce ambient noise. EDI addressed this by introducing transparent panels and strategically opening up the main entry level just below the central atrium, allowing filtered daylight to flow deep into the core of the building and create a more inviting atmosphere.
Acoustic performance was carefully enhanced to reduce background noise, ensuring a calm and focused learning environment. The transformation also included the creation of a versatile Black Box performance space by raising the roof, giving students a dedicated venue for drama, performing arts, and creative expression.

Through thoughtful planning, structural interventions, and adaptive reuse, EDI successfully turned an unconventional space into a future-ready educational facility that reflects ASB’s commitment to innovation, student wellbeing, and global best practices in school design.
